For Immediate Release
Monday, June 20, 2005
The University of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Board of Regents will gather this Tuesday and Wednesday, June 21-22, 2005, to consider a new doctoral program in Clinical-Community Psychology.
If approved by the board, the program would be a partnership between the departments of psychology at both the Anchorage and Fairbanks campuses. The program focus would include clinical, community and crosscultural psychology with an emphasis on indigenous, ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Native and American Indian psychology.
The program, aimed at equipping doctoral-level professionals with the dual skills of researcher and practitioner, would begin accepting students in the fall of 2006.
The board also is slated to consider a certificate and associate of applied science degree in Construction Trades Technology at ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ and post-baccalaureate certificates in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education (pre-kindergarten through third-grade) at UAA.
Also on the docket is distribution of the FY 06 capital and operation budget and two land sales; a 207-acre parcel at Lunch Creek in Ketchikan and a three-acre parcel in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley.
In addition, UA President Mark Hamilton will be presented with a 5 Star Award from the state’s Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Committee, which recognizes and supports employers who keep Guard and Reserve ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æs on the job and in the ranks.
The packed agenda also includes a proposal to change the name of the College of Rural ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ, under ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ, to the College of Rural and Community Development. The proposed change is the result of a two-year effort to identify a name that more accurately reflects the broad mission of the college, which includes the urban Tanana Valley Campus, located in downtown Fairbanks.
The meeting will get under way at 8 a.m. Tuesday in the Regents’ Conference Room,
Room 109 Butrovich Building. Members of the public will have an opportunity to testify
at approximately 10 a.m. Tuesday and again at 8 a.m. Wednesday.
