New Chief Financial Officer Named for UA System

A University of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Fairbanks executive with a long ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ in finance and accounting
has been named chief financial officer for UA statewide.
Joe Trubacz, ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ's associate vice chancellor of finance and business operations, brings
nearly 20 years of experience in accounting and finance to the position, which oversees
the university's finances at the system level and coordinates financial accounting
with each separately accredited university in Fairbanks, Anchorage and Juneau.
"Joe brings a breadth of knowledge about how fiscal operations work, both at the campus
and system level," said UA Vice President for Administration Jim Johnsen. "He also
shares our strong historic commitment to accountability."
The chief financial officer position has been filled on an interim basis by Jim Lynch,
associate vice president for finance, since April, when former Vice President for
Finance Joe Beedle left the university to resume a career in banking.
Trubacz has worked at the university since 1990, heading up finance and administrative
services at the Institute of Northern Engineering/Arctic Region Supercomputing Center.
Since 2001, he has been responsible for directing ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ's fiscal operations, first as
director of financial services and then as associate vice chancellor of finance and
business operations. He's served as interim vice chancellor of administrative services
from October 2005 through August 2006.» He previously oversaw planning, analysis and
institutional research at ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ, a department he was asked to create in 1998 in preparation
for an accreditation visit by the Commission on Colleges of the Northwest Association
of Schools and Colleges. He also worked for several years at the system level as associate
director of statewide budget and institutional research.»
Trubacz, 47, first came to Fairbanks in 1986, when he was stationed at Eielson Air
Force Base. He retired from the Air Force Reserves with the rank of lieutenant colonel
in June 2006.» He'll begin his duties at the system office on Dec. 11.» The position
pays $148,400 annually. Trubacz and his wife Heidi have four children and live in
North Pole.
