Museum of the Cultures of Oaxaca
The Regional Museum of Oaxaca was transferred to the former convent of Santo Domingo in 1972 under the INAH (National Institute of History and Anthropology). As the National Army vacated more rooms in the former convent, an ambitious restoration project was carried out in 1994.
The Museum, now called the Museum of the Cultures of Oaxaca, is the most important cultural place in Oaxaca and its collection contains objects from pre-Hispanic times to the 20th century. Its halls and rooms host exhibitions, cultural and academic events in coordination with the Santo Domingo Cultural Center and the rest of the institution that shares the former Santo Domingo convent such as the Fray Francisco de Burgoa Library, the Néstor Sánchez Newspaper Library and the Botanical Ethno-Garden.
