Nicole Misarti appointed director of Institute of Northern Engineering
March 8, 2024
The College of Engineering and Mines is delighted to announce the appointment of Nicole Misarti as the director of the Institute of Northern Engineering, effective immediately.
Misarti brings a wealth of research and administrative leadership experience to her new role. Having served as a research faculty member at INE since 2012 and as Director of the Water and Environmental Research Center since 2019, she is well-prepared to lead INE into the future. Misarti's interdisciplinary background in environmental science, archaeology, and marine science uniquely positions her to address the challenges facing the sub-Arctic and Arctic regions. Her research focuses on long-term climate and marine ecosystem changes and coastal resilience in ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ and applying this knowledge to navigate future environmental shifts.
In addition to her academic achievements, Misarti has been an active member of the Board of the National Institutes of Water Research, including serving as board president. Her commitment to advancing research and collaboration in water-related issues is commendable.
"We are thrilled to have Dr. Misarti lead INE," said Bill Schnabel, the CEM dean. "Her dedication to interdisciplinary research and leadership in addressing critical challenges make her the ideal candidate for this role."
CEM would also like to thank Billy Connor for his exemplary service as acting INE director during the transition period. Connor's commitment to the institute and invaluable mentorship have guided INE during this time. He will continue to serve as the director of the Arctic Infrastructure and Development Center.
