April 18, 2025

The University of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Southeast is proud to honor Juneau resident Sioux Douglas with a UAS Meritorious Service Award at the 2025 Juneau Campus commencement ceremony, taking place at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 4 in the UAS Recreation Center.

Ms. Douglas has tirelessly advocated for the needs of seniors and people with disabilities in Southeast ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ. She was instrumental in the founding of Riverview Senior Living and the Teal Street Center, an organization that provides resources for those in need of social services such as elders, at-risk youth, people with disabilities, and low-income families in Juneau. In addition to these accomplishments, Ms. Douglas served as the mayor of Skagway, was a business owner, and contributed to ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ state policy through her work for the state legislature and for the ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Department of Administration. She has been recognized as Philanthropist of the Year by the Juneau Community Foundation and received the Women of Distinction Award from AWARE (a non-profit dedicated to providing safety and support for domestic violence survivors). Her commitment to serving others extends to the Juneau Community Foundation. As one of its first Board members, she helped the Foundation grow its assets from $500,000 to $50,000,000. UAS is honored to recognize Ms. Douglas for her many contributions to Southeast ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ.

Meritorious Service Awards recognize community members who have demonstrated significant public, academic, volunteer, philanthropic, cultural or artistic service to the local university or one of its community campuses, or to an ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æn community.

On the weekend of May 2-4, the University of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Southeast will celebrate student achievement and success at commencement activities on its three campuses in Sitka, Ketchikan, and Juneau. More information on the 2025 commencement events is available on the .
