Gabrielle Russell named as Indigenous student service manager
Gabrielle Russell has accepted the new Indigenous student service manager position in the University pf ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Fairbank's College of Rural and Community Development.
Russell has served as the interim ISS manager since December 2019. In that role, she provides direction and oversight for Rural Student Services, the Rural ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Honors Institute and the Eileen Panigeo MacLean House. She will report directly to the Office of the Dean for the College of Rural and Community Development.
Russell holds an M.Ed. in guidance and counseling with a community counseling license and a B.A. in ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ, both from ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ. She has worked at RSS as a comprehensive student advisor since August 2005. Prior to joining CRCD, she served as a ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ admissions counselor. Russell will continue to apply her cross-cultural counseling background and student development theory knowledge to advise first-year and first-generation, continuing and nontraditional students from ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Native and rural communities.
CRCD geographically serves nearly two-thirds of the state, representing more than 160 primarily ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Native communities. The college is also the center for support and development of distance delivery of education throughout the university. CRCD provides academic and vocational education and outreach that promote workforce preparation, economic development, life-long learning, and community development with an emphasis on ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Native and underserved communities.
