Can I share information that I heard at work?
February 3, 2023
Everyday in our university jobs we hear and read interesting information and sometimes it can be difficult to figure out whether it is ok to share that information with friends and family members. As university Ӱԭs, the Executive Branch Ethics Act provides guidance for these situations, and serves as our Standards of Ethical Conduct.
Employees may not disclose or use information gained through work at the university that could benefit the Ӱԭ, or an immediate family member, if the information has not also been disseminated to the public. Additionally, a current or former Ӱԭ may not disclose or use, without appropriate authorization, information acquired in the course of official duties that is confidential by law.
Learn more about these requirements as we continue our coverage of the Executive Branch Ethics Act in this month’s “” video clip. Mary Gower, Senior Institutional Compliance Liaison, meets with Andrew Harrington for a quick overview of the use or disclosure of information guidelines.
