Steve Patin to lead Human Resources at the University of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ

University of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ President Jim Johnsen announced today that Steven J. Patin has been named Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) for the university and will assume his new position on Oct. 25. Patin, who succeeds Keli Hite-McGee, currently is vice president at ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Communications overseeing all aspects of the company's customer service functions. He leads the field operations, information technology, and the corporate program management teams.

Peter Stortz named to 4-H Hall of Fame
October 10, 2019
Retired Palmer 4-H agent Peter Stortz will be inducted into the National 4-H Hall of Fame on Oct. 11, becoming the sixth ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æn to receive that honor. The Hall of Fame recognizes 4-H volunteers, Cooperative Extension Service professionals, staff and others who made a significant impact on the 4-H youth program at the local, state or national level.

Stephen Jewett wins diving lifetime achievement award

Stephen C. Jewett will receive the 2019 American Academy of Underwater Sciences Scientific Diving Lifetime Achievement award. Jewett is a research professor emeritus at the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences. He retired in 2015 after 42 years of service.

Founder of the ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Native Language Center Michael Krauss honored with memorial on Sept. 22

The University of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Fairbanks professor who literally put ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Native languages on the map passed away last month near his son's house outside of Boston. Michael Kruass was one of the world's foremost scholars of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Native languages and their ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ and structure.

Mark Herrmann receives Bullock Prize

The University of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Foundation has selected Mark Herrmann as recipient of the 2019 Edith R. Bullock Prize for Excellence. Herrmann is dean of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ's School of Management and a faculty member for more than 25 years. The Edith R. Bullock Prize for Excellence is the Foundation's most prestigious award.

ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ author Linda Schandelmeier wins national award

ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ author and ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ graduate Linda Schandelmeier has won the 2019 WILLA Literary Award for her book of poems "Coming Out of Nowhere," published in 2018 by the University of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Press. This nationally recognized award honors the best each year in literature, featuring women's or girls' stories set in the West.
